Just a few miles from Venice, the province of Treviso offers a marvellous blend of landscapes, art, history, natural beauty, hospitality and good food that will enrapture visitors and find a place in the hearts of all those who take in its delights. There is a constantly changing backdrop to any visit here, ranging from the harmonious plain to the Treviso Alpine Foothills, from the rolling Prosecco hills to the Montello and Cansiglio woods, passing through large cities and small towns along the way. This beautiful area is home to a host of wonderful sights just waiting to be discovered.
Lovers of art and history will be able to find traces of ancient cultures, mediaeval villages, stupendous modern architecture and highly prestigious museums, as well as immersing themselves in the sites of the heroic undertakings of the Great War; those who prefer nature can devote their time to discovering the province’s three rivers – the Sile, the Piave and the Livenza – and taking part in the numerous sports on offer, from cycling to paragliding. Finally, those seeking the pleasures of the palate will not be disappointed with the excellent food and wine available, first and foremost the Radicchio of Treviso and the famous Prosecco. This and more besides is what makes the Province of Treviso the home of good food and even better living. Primavera del Prosecco Doc 2009When the hills are filled with colours and aromas, you know it’s time to try out the wines from the latest vintage. Springtime sees the “wine festival” and the various shows from Valdobbiadene to Conegliano and Vittorio Veneto that mark the “official” unveiling of these wines to the public. The “Primavera del Prosecco” – or “Prosecco Springtime” – is an umbrella initiative that gathers together all of the Prosecco events in the local area. National urban trekking day: a huge success in TrevisoUrban trekking: a leisurely way to savour tourism; a way to get to know corners of the town that at a different pace would remain undiscovered; a way for the residents to breathe in the atmosphere of places that at other times they experience as part of the everyday frenzy. Fairytale locationsIt is the land of fairytales but also of great wines, and it may well be that there is more than just a circumstantial link between the two. Perhaps it was not by chance that illustrator Stepan Zavrel, an exile from the Prague Spring, ended up among these very hills. He went on to attract friends and colleagues from all over the world here and eventually decided to create, almost for the sake of enjoyment, the International Exhibition of Illustrations for Children, which is now the biggest show of its kind in Europe. |
