It is of Roman origins and it solitarily and proudly dominates the valley and Saint Florian Lake or Restello. It has been repeatedly reconstructed throughout the medieval period, guarding and linking the plain passing through the ancient valley of Lacus Lepasinus of Alpago, possibly the lost locality of Cepasias as some have upheld, or better to Lepasias, as it should be read.
