National urban trekking day: a huge success in Treviso

Urban trekking: a leisurely way to savour tourism; a way to get to know corners of the town that at a different pace would remain undiscovered; a way for the residents to breathe in the atmosphere of places that at other times they experience as part of the everyday frenzy.

These, in brief, are the reasons that led a large number of people (more than 150) to take part in the fifth national urban trekking day on Friday 31st October 2008. The initiative was organized by the Province of Treviso, in conjunction with the Municipality of Treviso, the Association for the Promotion of Tourism, the Unascom federation of business associations, the River Piave Wines Route Association and the Guide di Marca local tourist guide association.

Sporting comfortable shoes and with a healthy dose of inquisitiveness stowed in their backpacks, locals and visitors to the area, some young and some not so young, were accompanied by expert guides on a journey of discovery around the most fascinating sites in Treviso, from Piazza dei Signori to the town walls, from Calmaggiore to the Buranelli.

The success of the event was also celebrated in the culinary field, with ten restaurants taking part in the “Trekking dishes” initiative and offering a delicious taste of the local cuisine. Meanwhile, the River Piave Wines Route Association offered a “drop of hospitality”. Wines made by its members were available for tasting in the gazebos on Piazzetta Aldo Moro, where leaflets about the possibilities for wine tourism in the Treviso area were also handed out.
